LONDON — Shares in Bluetooth chip specialist CSR plc. fell on the London stock exchange Wednesday (Jan. 3) after it was caught up in a patent infringement case brought by a research foundation backed by the state of Washington in the U.S. against Nokia, Samsung Electronics and Matsushita's Panasonic division.
Cambridge, England-based Bluetooth chip specialist and market leader CSR's share price fell as much as 6.6 percent before clawing back some of the early losses to stand down 4 percent at 638 pence midday in London.
Filed in the District Court of Seattle by the Washington Research Foundation , which said it is acting on behalf of the University of Washington, which owns the patents in question, the suit claims the three companies should have sought a license before using the technology in mobile phones, headsets and other electronic equipment.
